The Dog that Almost Was

The kids found a stray dog on Tuesday. I started warming up to the idea of adopting him. He was sweet as can be, had a collar, and was obviously very healthy. The more the neighbors and I were talking, we figured someone was out looking for him. Just in case we made arrangements for him to stay at our house over the weekend. Our kids and our neighbors' were beside themselves with excitment about this plan. Dog food was secured, water bowls were filled. They were outside all afternoon playing with him. Mmmmmm......several hours of uninterupted outside play is starting to sound good to me. Anyhow, our other neighbors phoned the local vet to see if there were any lost dogs posted. Sure enough, "Prince" had a real home (and a real name...the kids had been calling him Buddy, even though Lily insisted on Sammy.) Tragically (especially for our neighbor Lauren) Prince had to go home. Apparently, he's quite the escape artist. Maybe he'll visit us again, and like a baby, we can play with him and then give him back to his "Mommy".

It's so cool. I remember a dog we took in for a day. Of corse my kids wanted to keep him. I was releave when we found his owners, but one of our cats came to us that way...kept laying in frount of the school bus...guess who had to hold him?
