Thanks to a friend from school, we found out that the Polar Express is actually right here in North Carolina! So, we bought tickets in October, and we've been waiting and waiting since then. After a 3 hour drive through beauticul NC scenery, we finally arrived in Dillsboro. The sun had set and the kids were all in their PJ's, ready to get to the North Pole. It felt like the old days, when people would ride trains for regional trips, and enjoy their dinner while watching the trees whip by. Our table had a crisp tablecloth and a folded card with "Huntsman". The kids were so thrilled to meet the "Real" Santa. As the train pushed off, we were served dinner by the wait staff. Pumpkin Bisque soup, Ham, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, and pecan pie. Of course we all had hot chocolate, just like the movie. Even Grace, who dripped little drops out of her bottle, all over. After eating, the story was read, and I was wishing I found our book before leaving the house. But, it was fun to listen. The train started slowing down. The wait staff thinned out and Travis and I gave each other a smile. It was Santa time! He boarded the train about 3 cars behind us. So, the anticipation was killer. Cole was so excited, even a little nervous to meet Santa. "Would he think I was naughty or nice?" He slid under the table for a second. Then his head popped back up. "OK, I've been nice." Paige was very quiet and smiling even more than usual. When she's excited she just gets very quiet and smiley. Lily was just happy to be there. Santa made his way back to our car, and even I was getting butterflies! When he finally came into view, he looked so jolly. He came and talked to us in a very kind and gentle voice. He had a basket full of bells that he shared with the kids and he told them to "Believe". It was a magical night and I hope the kids will always remember it.

Sounds like so much fun!! You will have to give us the info. so we can do that with our kids next year.
That is the most adorable story I've read in a while. I just love children's pure excitement and joy. I love witnessing it especially as their parent. Looks like a dreamy night. :)
Sounds like you had a wonderful time. We will have to do that sometime. Thanks for sharing :)
I can't tell, is Grace smiling or crying in the picture on Santa's lap? What a perfect night!
The Polar Expressed must have been heading southeast after he left Chicago. We got to ride it in early Dec. Great family memories. I just love how kids are so fascinated and intrigued by these times. Glad you guys had fun.

Okay Nic, you are going to have a late Christmas Card! Send me your address (leave it on my blog)! Have a fun Christmas Eve tonight with the family and a Merry Christmas. I can't wait to read about it.
Thanks!!! By the way, love your blog too. It's so good to catch up.
I just saw your post on the Hazen's with your address. You guys live on Tannenbaum? I think we sent your X-mas card there, but we also have an address on Berwick Valley Lane? Just want to check to see if you got it, and hope I put the correct address.
